THE IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME MODEL
The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a curriculum framework designed by the International Baccalaureate (IB) for learners aged 11-16. The programme aims for students to make connections between what they are learning through their studies and the real world. MYP is an inclusive program that benefits students who come with a range of interests and abilities.
The IB Middle Years Programme helps students to:
— Build confidence in managing their own learning
— Learn by doing, connecting the classroom to the larger world
— Thrive in positive school cultures where they are engaged and motivated to excel 12
— Develop an understanding of global challenges and a commitment to act as responsible citizens.
Each year during the myp students also study at least one interdisciplinary unit that Combines 2 or more subject areas.
Middle Years programme CORE
Students fulfill CORE requirements by participation in:
— Service as Action - students engage in service (community service) and action (activity) beyond the classroom. These can be individual, in small groups or as a community project.
— Personal Project - students demonstrate consolidation of learning over time. They research and develop a personal project.
